LEO HILLINGER - official PINK RIBBON Partner

The collected sum was rounded up to € 620.000 by the founder of Pink Ribbon, Estée Lauder, and presented to Cancer Aid in the form of a symbolic cheque on behalf of all partners and supporters. “We had started the Pink Ribbon Campaign in Austria in cooperation with the Austrian Cancer Aid many years ago. Meanwhile, the success and scope of the Austrian campaign stands out in Europe,” says Marion Pelzel from Estée Lauder Companies.

„We would like to thank Estée Lauder for the common realization of the Pink Ribbon Campaign in Austria as well as all partners who support the activity. The presentation of the donations aims at unveiling their utilization,” says managing director of Cancer Aid and Pink Ribbon coordinator Doris Kiefhaber. “We regard complete transparency as an obvious debt to our partners, supporters, the public and media,” says Kiefhaber. “Generally, the correct and transparent assignment of the donations is the foremost goal of Cancer Aid,” says Cancer Aid President Dr. Paul Sevelda. There is no question that 100% of the donations must be assigned for the targeted goal. Independent auditors of the donation seal of quality, guarantee and confirm this process,” says Seveld.

Utilization of donations for prevention
„Raising the awareness of as many women as possible throughout Austria about the importance of an early detection of breast cancer swallowed the sum of € 195,044.88 in 2009. This fund has been made available by our Pink Ribbon partners and utilized as follows,” states Kiefhaber.

- for the production, distribution and mail-order of in total 1.000.000 information brochures on the topics of „Women and Cancer“ (prevention), „Breast Cancer“ (for female patients) and instructions for breast self-exams in the form of “Shower Cards”. The brochures have been distributed among all Austrian hospitals, all physicians, pharmacies, branches of partners, directly to women in the course of numerous prevention events all over Austria, by mail as well as directly to women through 40 Cancer Aid Information Centres.

- for the organization of the Pink Ribbon Tour throughout Austria

- for updating the latest information on the topic of breast cancer prevention and therapy on www.krebshilfe.net and www.pinkribbon.at respectively.

Utilization of donations for immediate aid

These donations are dedicated to immediate aid in 2010 – guidance of breast cancer patients throughout Austria and direct financial assistance to patients who experienced financial difficulties through no fault of their own.
